The Iceman: Confessions of a Mafia Hitman
The Iceman: Confessions of a Mafia Hitman is a documentary feature undertaken by HBO. The documentary is a chilling account about the former Mafia enforcer Richard Kuklinski.
HBO had first interviewed Kuklinski in 1991. This interview had taken place five years after he received consecutive life sentences for multiple murders. He showed no remorse.
The film shows how Kuklinski lived a double life, like the fictional hit men in The Sopranos and Road to Perdition. He moved in society as a businessman, devoted husband and loving father. But on the other hand he specialized in the tidy use of cyanide and committed many murders. He describes his killings in graphic detail and expresses regret only when lamenting the deception of his family.
HBO paid a second visit to Kuklinski in 2001. The move by HBO to interview him again was to capitalize on the Sopranos phenomenon.
These interviews serve as a fascinating firsthand record and account of Mafia killing by one of the former Mafia enforcer.
