The God Who Wasn’t There
Former fundamentalist Christian Brian Flemming places the core concepts of his former religion under the microscope in a documentary that attempts to make religion what Super Size Me Morgan Spurlock did for fast food industry. In his bold quest to seek answers to difficult questions that few are willing to pose, Flemming is joined to the deconstruction of Jesus author Robert M. Price, renowned historian Richard Carrier and The End of Faith author Sam Harris.

From the ignorance of many contemporary Christians as to the origin of their religion to the striking similarities between Jesus Christ and the gods worshiped by the ancient pagan cults and the Christian obsession with blood and violence, this documentary explores the faith that shakes the many mysteries of Christian faith as never before.
The documentary argues that the “mystical” in the historical Jesus debate. This position says that Jesus of Nazareth was not a real person but a fiction based on the Jewish scriptures and the mystery religions of the Roman Empire. It makes no sense to speak of a “real” Jesus – there was none. This film has good information, but could have been produced better – any high school student could have done a better job.

Strike me down now. Where are you? A god that sent down his son or himself to torture his son, I mean himself, then resurrected his son, oops himself, to forgive mankind by sacrificing his son, ooops himself. Anybody see the sense in this one? It is what you get when you try and change a myth that had more than one god to a single god. You get a mess.
You people really are fools.
I been tellin em too,,, I was just thinking too about how zeitgeist led alot of people away from Jesus(the Black Man), his own self, the alpha & Omega,,, and has made many ear deaf,, allot of dumb and therefore blinded,,, living in a world of illusions of grandeur,,, blue eyed beast of a devil!
You the man! That guy does not understand the word grace.
great response!!!!!!!! did a great great job of it all…thank you for clearing up these horrid claims of this “God wasnt there documentary”…
I am an agnostic and a sceptic, but i enjoyed watching this, and you make a better argument than most. Thanks for posting!
How could Paul attest to the physical being of Christ other than by hearsay of the disciples who would’ve had an agenda to promote Jesus as the Son of God? Paul’s/Saul’s first experience of Christ is one of the supernatural.
@valetudo777 same difference
I find it interesting that these things are left out. Though there may be some inaccuracies, there have proven to be far more inaccuracies in how the Bible matches up with history, including its’ own history. There has never been any evidence showing any of it happened, including the existence of Jesus (Yay-Zeus.hehe). Lots of speculation, lots of opinion, nothing solid. People talking round and round in circles until the point of the matter is forgotten.
You bring up Horus, but what about Mithras? What about Krishna? There is also evidence linking the Pharisee’s and modern Judaism to Zarathustra’s teachings of which Christianity and Islam are said to be extentions. Prior to this Pharisee (Persian) spiritual ‘invasion’ Judaism was less spiritual. What about the stories of Noah and Creation? Drawing from old Sumerian texts?? What of the Hyksos being driven from Egypt by a Pharoh named Ah Moshe and the parallels to Moses and the Exodus??
why do people defend a god that drowns babies?
Thank you for your rebuttal. Brian Flemming strikes me as a sad sad story, and he is either a liar, or really didn’t pay attention to his bible. It was also shameful how he presented the passage of Luke 19:27 as Jesus’ own proclomation, without explaining the context that he was teaching a parable. That whole movie was a shameful display of disinformation. Thank you again for your rebuttal. God bless.
I love this video, mostly because “The God Who Wasn’t There” sucked so much hard c***! lol. I loved how you also used the same g** music, and presented logical facts, bro. Peace.
@WillEmmens I would say the things many Christians may not know is that the oldest copies of the New Testament are copies of copies of copies. The originals are long lost. There is a fragment of the gospel of John dated at 125 AD. Oldest copy of Josephus is 10th century. Tacitus 11th century, almost one thousand years after the originals yet scholars accept the original dates.
@WillEmmens Several New Testament letters are older than 70 AD. Mark’s gospel probably used “Q” and/or “Gospel to the Hebrews” as sources & are older than Mark which is dated from 55 to 70 or so depending on the scholar. Many figures of the ancient world show up first in written form hundreds of years after they lived, yet nobody seems to question their existence.
supposedly they date from AD 70-90; at least 40 years after the death of Jesus. Not exactly what you would call first hand, credible eveidence is it…
If somebody wants to be an Atheist then yes, that is theire own choice, but to say that they are spreading lies?! Please…Where is your evidence that God ACTUALLY exists, that Jesus was his son, and that he supposedly died for humanity? Having faith does not cut it as evidence. That is a personal beilef that I do not share. Show me your proof!!To say that Atheists are the ones in the wrong is indoctrinated, dangerous and laughable, unless you can prove what you are saying with solid facts.
@jlayne3 How long was the gospels written after Jesus was crucified? The Gospel to the Hebrews was written very close to Jesus’ life by Matthew in the Hebrew language and is now lost. But the church fathers in the second, third and fourth century quote from it and confirm it is old and middle first century. Oddly they seem to not know about the Matthew in the Bible today written in Greek.
Isaiah 48:16 in my bible reads: “Draw near to me and hear this: from the beginning I have never spoken in secret; from the moment of its first happening I was there.” How is that taken to prophesy that the Christ would be part of a trinitarian godhead? Those were the first two I happened to check, Isaiah 7:14 says “a (or the) young woman” not a virgin. ??
revD what am I missing there? Genesis 3: 15 in my bible reads: “I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your brood and hers. They shall strike at your head, and you shall strike at their heel.” — How is that “prophesying” that ‘God would destroy sin through an Earthly body’?
@ revdionysus. i can’t believe @ 3:37 you use the unproven to prove the unproven what saddens me is how this belief systems are so designed to attract good hearts who see nothing good outside their religion. its the fear of being evil and be punished or feeling emptyRELIGION IS A PRISON TO THE MIND people dedicate their life to a book with so many errors Even Albert einstine was proven wrong and if scientists were religious ,his relativity theories would still be up to standard today
revdionysusThere are over 200 prophecies of Yeshua’s first and second coming.According to a mathematician, by the name of Peter Stone, the probability of anyone fulfilling only eight prophecies would be 1 to the 100th power. That is 1 followed by 100 zeros!Ummm, there is not one!Yeshua only fits the bill!
Lets look at history. The word is mâs**̂yach and Strongs # 4899 appears 38 times means Anointed; a consecrated person (as a king, priest, or saint). LEV 4:3 – Hab 3:13From the Root mâshach #4886 = to rub with oil. Found in 66 verses.mâs**̂yach is where they get the word “Messiah” except in the translation from the Greek means “Anointed One” a belief of Idolatry, that actually takes away from the Father and His Anointed One’s throughout History.
