A collaboration between the Union of Plantation Workers Independent Sumatra (Indonesia), International Union of Food and Agriculture Organisation (IUF) and the Draft Vision Film.
The tapes of globalization is a film made by workers for workers. The story is not told by experts, but by members of the unions in the oil palm plantations in Indonesia. His experience is complemented by the workers of Colombia and the Netherlands. The film documents the force exploration of history, globalization, and how trade unions around the world can support each other and fight together.
Using their own forbidden history as a case study, the makers of Indonesia following the development of contemporary globalization from its roots in colonialism to the present. Through chilling first-hand accounts, tapes of globalization exposes the devastating role of militarism and repression in building the “global economy” and explores the relationship between trade, third world debt, and institutions such as the IMF, the World Bank and the World Trade Organization. The film explains how these institutions shape and enforce the order of business.
