The Curse of Oil
Three-part series that goes in a revealing journey through the world, oil-producing regions, beyond the familiar territory of the Middle East. Now that the price of oil appears to be rising inexorably at the pumps, the newspapers are full of gloomy predictions related to the increasing addiction to perishable reserves of oil. Bill Cran series takes a somewhat different approach.
In fact, we are still well supplied with oil on planet earth. The problem is that the majority of which is as far as addicts spoiled the wrong places. Getting enough oil to fill George Bush SUV requires dealing with nasty governments or destroying the forest. But the relationship between oil companies, consumers and those who live where oil is extracted is changing very rapidly. It is increasingly possible that the native populations to obstruct the oil companies.
Cran series leaves one with the feeling that there are no easy answers – but that, given the hysteria surrounding the issue, not bad. It is also amazing shot.
