Terry Pratchett: Choosing To Die
In a sincere, personal documentary, Sir Terry Pratchett, the author considers how you can choose to end his life.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2008, Terry wants to know if he might be able to end his life before his illness takes over.
Traveling to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland, Terry witnessed first hand the procedures established for an assisted death, and faces to the point where that would take the lethal drug.
Sir Terry Pratchett has made an emotional plea the right to take his own life, saying: I live in hope that you can jump before I pushed
Unfortunately, however, I also found the self-deception: in cafes, restaurants and streets, the vast majority of people I talked to wanted desperately to believe that it was too late and that, surely, the South will never leave the union. It will. This is a short dialogue by Terry and the full interview will be uplifted once it becomes available to us.

Normally suicide is a desperate way out, but in this case and other cases similar to this.I think that the right to die by assisted suicide is an option for people as a alternative to dying a long painful death. I know it’s kind of scary, but if people want to go to a placewhere assisted suicide is legal, they have every right, it’s not selfish or wrong.I see that the loved ones are by his or her side come the time of the suicide. That’s comforting for the dying person.
It’s really not my intention to impose my views on anyone, but, most sincerely, I can’t understand how running away could be considered braver than facing the problem. After all, they’re undeniably chosing what they understand to be the easiest way out. Personally, and I respect those who disagree with me, I see no dignity in running away.
While half of the world is lost denying death, and doing so produces incredible pain and disgusting violence, we managed to reach this kind of highness. So the joy of life is really in death as you told me for years. Eh mom?
44:00 It’s sad that someone who waits till they get to a point where their mind really is gone or their body really is gone that is the very reason they wouldn’t want to go on living then prevents them from being able to use these assisted suicide methods. So they have to decide to go sooner and lose some of their remaining good days. They can’t put into effect a sort of “living will” / “power of attorney” to let someone else help them at that point.
How dare you call the man a coward- if you have watched the hour long documentary and seen how courageously Andrew and Peter composed themselves in the face of death then I am sure you could see that it requires strength and bravery beyond most people.
That is what I call Violence.Oh, come on. If people would know how is to be death, they would probably want be alive again. Is like a cliched that “no one wants what they have”. If you have an adult problem you must faced as and adult and no as a childish boy.
“Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived.”— Isaac Asimov«And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.» (2 Kings 2:22-24)
No No No… Keep them in darkness and fear Educated people are not as easy to manipulate. If everyone can escape so easely nobody will want to do the dirty jobs nobody will buy expensive and useless medicines. The church will lose authority
It’s an opioid drug, It’s side effects are respiratory depression so much so if a high enough dose is given they will stop breathing. they must have had him on a relatively low dose over that period of time. Trust me I’ve seen the effects of it.
The little blue house in Switzerland. As soon as they walked in and he opened the shade to let the sun in I thought, “oh what a nice house.” it looks so warm and cozy and peaceful and free of worries. Like the end of a very nice story.
@SamaireP well, the aid is the professional…she knows how to handle it, and he obviously he felt secure with her. but I know what you mean. at least, he kissed his wife, and I think I couldn’t handle looking at a loved one while dying.
Watching that man die was horrifying. I respect his wish. But it was horrifying. And I know the British are proud of being cold and aloof, but my god, the aide was touching him and holding him more than his wife. I don’t think I could do that. But I respect his wishes. But: my god. My god.
@MrKorea Nope, there are some people like myself whom are not depressed or ill. I am very bright, young, and happy. I just find life to be unfair, cruel and unjust and my standards are too high for this world. I am too good to live. If you cannot understand that and must assume that I am mentally ill in order to reject your stupid world, then that is your failing, not mine.
There is a legal loop hole that allows the use of morphine to be used as much as needed. So if someone appears to be in any kind of pain we are allowed to give morphine. Morphine in a nut shell, it can kill you peacefully when given in high or regular doses after a period of time. I’m not in favor of assisted suicide but I’m not in favor of people suffering. This is in Australia by the way.
There are no gods, no devils,no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world.Religion is but myth and superstitionthat hardens hearts and enslaves minds. —— Religion is what the common people see as true, the wise see as false, and the rulers see as useful —Religion is a socio-political institutionfor the control of people’s thoughts, lives, and actions;based on ancient myths and superstitions perpetratedthrough generations of subtle yet pervasive brainwashing.
@calpicox Whats barbaric is the fact that you are forcing someone like me to use a shotgun to kill myself instead of this peaceful way. How dare you get between me and my rights. You don’t decide whether or not I want to live in this dreadful world, thank you very much.
Terry does ask a question that get you thinking, how am I gonna die? Well we never know how we’re gonna die. I could die next year, next week or hell, someone could break into my house and shoot me in the head as soon as I’m done with this comment. I live life to my fullest, I spend as much time with my friends, family, and girlfriend as much as possible. How I hope to die is between the age of 90-100, where I already lived a full life and I’m ready for that, but I don’t know if that will happen
very interesting, informative, and most definitely something that sparks controversy. although many wont agree for one reason or another, like its been said many times in this documentary, it is truly one’s own opinion/decision to make. we must remember that judging others for their actions is just as though you did them yourself. everyone has their own reasoning for the actions/reactions we make in our lives, and we will live/die accordingly.
Hard to watch. Worth it in the end though. And to those who are against assisted dying, in my own opinion death is one of the most personal things there is, other that being born. So why should you not have the choice of how or when to go, if you don’t have any quality of life. Don’t you understand why people put animals down?! It’s cruel to keep them alive.

I have 2 10 speed folding bikes that need some work but are otiehwrse usable. If anybody wants them they are welcome. Otherwise I am going to throw them away. Accepting them gives you no obligation. If you later decide you don’t want them either pass them on to someone else or give them a decent burial.
Well I just got in from seeing Salt and all I can say is that I hope there is a sueqel. I am so happy that I never read the script, never watched the trailers and tried to not read to much about the movie. My husband enjoyed it so much and that is really saying something. Not to give it away any thing, but I was shocked at the end between Salt and her boss, I never saw it coming. I give it 10 stars, loved every minute of it.

I highly agree with the pnaads not being utilized to their fulled. FRIG. THIS SUCKS. JUNJUN WAS MY FAVE AFTER KOHA LEFT. And LinLin was second Ai could do well enough with a solo career since she already dominates wota’s hearts and the singles, maybe even TakaGaki combo unit would be awesome sauce. And Eri Although she’s leaving for health reasons, she was JUST starting to be put in there instead of Ai/Reina 24/7. I really hope they don’t release a 5nin single in the process of training 9th gen It will suck.I hope the Pandas hit it big at home!! And I hope Eri gets better. That’s all a wota can do.
