Strange Culture builds on a tragic event in the life of Steve Kurtz , an associate professor of art at the State University of New York, Buffalo and transforms it into a compelling narrative.
The filmmaker employs the nonfiction to her advantage and makes a compelling case against genetically modified food and depicts how easily an ordinary citizen can become a suspect in the eyes of the law. The film shows how Steve Kurtz becomes a suspect when his wife dies in her sleep of heart failure. Steve was preparing an exhibition on genetically modified food when the tragedy happened. The use of petri dishes by Steve was misconstrued by the paramedic and the FBI was reported and Steve was accused of bio-terrorism and murder of his own wife.
