This story is about greed, fear and randomness from the insides of Wall Street, a story about Quants.

Quants are computer programmers and the math wizards in the engine room of our global financial system who have made the financial products that almost crashed Wall st.

Global financial system has become increasingly dependent on mathematical models trying to quantify human (economic) behaviour which we come to know by credit crunch.

Yet another technological revolution in finance: trading at the speed of light is possible because of Quant’s, now quant’s are at the heart of it.

Now the questions are: What are the risks of treating the economy and its markets as a complex machine? Will we be able to keep control of this model-based financial system, or have we created a monster?

  1. Why do you think that prices on stock exchanges are delayed for fifteen minutes or more? That it is; it is not real time; others want an advantage which is a bit like insider trading and if they are allowed to use high speed trading that only exacerbates the situation.

  2. the video shows that mathematicians don’t understand real economics and high speed trading should be banned as it gives the people with the fastest computer (big banks) an unfair advantage and if you look at a graph of share prices they seem to reflect this

  3. Dharshini says:

I did ballet thguroh my first year of pointe. Then I developed curves and always felt out of place with all the super thin girls. Also it wasn’t my life, I had many interests when I was a kid. So I made the decision to quit when I was 13. It was really hard at the time but I knew that the dance world wasn’t for me. But I still love going to the ballet and daydreaming about being a prima ballerina, so yes I will definitely see this film!
