There are many psychopaths in society, in fact, practically know nothing. These are not necessarily psychopaths who commit murder, commit acts of serious violence, or even come to the attention of the police. They can be successful entrepreneurs. They can be successful politicians. Research can be performed successfully. They can be priests success. There are in all areas of society. There is a growing awareness that psychopathic behavior is all around us in all areas of life.

According to popular wisdom, psychopaths are serial murderers and bloodthirsty madman. Reality is not so simple. While many psychopaths do not commit violent crimes, not all psychopaths are criminals and not all criminals are psychopaths. Psychopaths are found in many aspects of life and are often successful in competitive professions. However it was also ruthless, manipulative and destructive. Equinox reports on techniques developed by psychologists to determine whether a person is psychopathic and shows how brain scientists are getting closer to mapping the malfunctions in the brain that causes a person to be a psychopath. In Britain, one person in 200 is probably a psychopath. However, psychopaths are thought to be responsible for half of all reported crimes, which represent between 15% and 20% of the prison population.

The program analyzes the latest research on brain and behavior of psychopaths and assesses the prospects for the treatment or containment of this antisocial group of people who create a disproportionate amount of destruction. Psychopaths who have been convicted of heinous crimes to clearly explain what motivated his behavior disturbing violent and destructive. They speak without shame, guilt, remorse or empathy for their victims.

Though articulate and, at times, plausible and charming, they lack the range of emotions experienced by the rest of society. They know the difference between good and evil, but not sorry. Robert Hare, professor of psychology at the University of Vancouver, has devised a system of assessment called the Psychopathy Checklist. Specialized In interviews, psychologists assess individuals on a scale of 0 to 40 for a series of character traits, including callousness, superficial charm, lack of empathy and many others (for more details on How to recognize a psychopath ). Anyone whose score is greater than 26 were diagnosed as psychotic.

What the fuck Sam Vaknin is a psychopath??

  2. JoeMac824 says:

i still dont understand, if they have all those abilities then they would obviously have some measure of self awareness, unless im misunderstanding what he means by self awareness. What does that mean then? i figure it means they are aware of what is going on around them, an what has happened to them, and then take the best steps to move forward.

  3. CrackedHalo says:

So brain scans lie ? As for not wanting to give a bad impression of themselves…. sure, when they want something from you. My father who is a psychopath, could really care less WHAT you think about him or his behavior…. or how you perceive him. Of course unless like I said, he wants something from you. Hope that helps to clear things up. Every psychopath is different, just like every other person is.

  4. The utterly irrelevant, super-boring, narcissistic and disagreeable to the eye prick is already taking up a lot of space on the internet. Are people now actually making him the main subject of an entire doc?? Pfew…He’s a complete bore.

  5. Sam is “wannabe wannabe psychopath”…this jerk is the very definition of psychopathception…no matter how smart he is there is no excuse for being such a pathetic little miserable prick trying to make other people miserable and be proud of it

  6. Suzanne4415 says:

The DSM-IV doesn’t recognize either. It only has Antisocial Personality Disorder, with encompasses many psychopaths and many other poorly adjusted, impulsive, aggressive people. Sociopath and psychopath merely reflect different schools of thought on the origin and exact nature of the disturbance.

  7. I think this documentary is a great piece of work. I believe I am the parent of a psychopath. I have experienced the same confusing emotions. I got to the point of thinking I was the one who was psychopathic. I was tested for it and was pleased to find out I scored very much in the normal range. Unless you have dealt with it or lived with it you would not understand the damage that is left behind…like a slow moving hurricane. Thank you for taking the time to make this documentary.

  9. Yelena211 says:

Imagine switching your morality genes on and off like a light switch… Imagine mutan genes… Is it possible that the undiscovered 2% of genes can be the key to unlocking the endless possibility of substaining and minipulating life itself…

  10. Yelena211 says:

I believe that everyone has psychopathic traits; moreover i believe that a person can minipulate there own mind in such a way where they can triger or recreate morality. Whats more frightening and intrigging is the limitless ability the brain has… theres so much that we as people dnt knw about ourselves…

  11. He’s most definitively not a MILD Narcissist. And he most certainly has, as he admits, some psychopathic traits which goes beyond that of Narcissism.Sam does seem very cold, displaying very little real emotions and expressions; in my opinion much less than the average Narcissist, and more akin to that of a Psychopath. But whether he “is” a Psychopath or not, and why everyone are arguing about it as if being Psychopathic is something to brag about, is at least not in My interests..

  12. I think your documentary was wonderful! it was well considered, (esp Robert Hare) . . .also artistically, you made the subject “Poor Mad Sam” someone we can all learn to protect ourselves from. I felt such empathy with what you had to endure to complete your project! best of luck–you have a lot to offer helping us understand some of the more painful subjects in this world. Remember, Sam is neither Hannibal nor Patrick Bateman- just an obnoxious predator without charm or humanity. Thank You!

  13. dan pressley says:

what he said at the end is exactly how people lose their sense of self

  14. moromillas says:

I am just baffled as to why people are saying “he’s not a psychopath.” Various experts proved it, you can even see him completely flatline in the MRI.

  15. . . .last line below should read `psycho~social anti matter`.

  16. To say one is a psychopath is similar to saying one is autistic in that its a term describing a condition with a broad range of identifiable traits that exist in various combinations and degrees of severity from one person to another. Which of course is the nature of human personality and behaviour in general. Think of psychopaths as a photo negative or more accurately as psycho~social matter

  17. scumgod13 says:

Wow, What an all around asshole. I get it how has no ability to care or feel remorse but most if us don’t care about every single person we meet. That’s still no reason to go around trying to hurt everyone you ave any dealings with. If nothing else, that’s just self preservation cause some people out there won’t allow themselves treated that way and may bash his fat mouth

  18. AKSBSU says:

I’m a neuropsychologist and give these tests for a living. You’re not grasping that one would expect someone like Sam to attempt to manipulate the results. Diagnosis is not as simple as churning a single number out of a test. No one looks at a printout of the MMPI-2 and makes a diagnosis only from that. There’s a reason psychological evaluations aren’t limited to just a single personality test. Look over a psych report; you’ll see history, emotional status, behavioral observations, ect.

  19. AKSBSU says:

He isn’t “being honest.” There’s no time a psychopath or especially a narcissist is completely honest. When the documentarian began using a hidden camera, Sam looked much worse and more cruel than when he knew he was being observed. Individuals with Cluster B personality disorders tend to constantly manipulate and control people through deceit, coercion, or whatever means available. The fact that he’s screwing with the filmmaker or trying to present himself in a dishonest way is unsurprising.
