Nano: The Next Dimension
The research community and industry face a dreadful challenge from nanosciences and nanotechnologies. Overcoming these challenges requires a world-class infrastructure, new fundamental knowledge, novel equipment for characterization and manufacturing, multi-disciplinary education and training for innovative and creative engineering apart from a highly responsible attitude to societal demands.
This documentary film provides a quick look at some of the many activities that are being carried out in Europe in these fast-growing fields of research and technological development. This film has been made available by the European Commission.

Allah created us come back to your creator
Nano is our Future’s Past, Or as I like to call it, “Back To The Future”.. Just sayin’ We’ve been here before..
You’re mainly speaking about incidents from the medieval times… And I can’t really see evolution affecting nanosciences… Maybe you’re right about the last part but it just proves my point, that science is not being stopped now. You were saying ” too many issues are holding us back ” in your original comment, they’re not actually holding us now… They used to, but now they don’t..
What? religion has been seen throughout history trying to suppress science via killing scientists whose findings contradicted their faith, library/book burning setting humanity back years and eradicating knowledge that will probably be lost to humanity for ever and lets not forget as of recent fundamental Christians and their lawsuits against evolution being taught in school. Science cant be stopped from progressing now but if people had realized sooner if not for religion it would be better!
Perhaps he meant how shallow your judgement is on religious people and that they blindly follow primitive people, making you think that you somehow have a privilege over them by being an atheist and not falling for those “fairytales”. Or maybe he meant how you’re accusing religion to be binding scientific research when it simply can’t do that… Scientific research is the one that has a binding ability on religion and not the other way around, even to religious people ( myself included ).
I have no doubt that you believe that to be true and, to me, that seems like the correct way to interpret the texts, however, that isn’t the only interpretation and since the religious experience is subjective you cannot say that any other interpretation is less valid than your own. While you feel your beliefs are compatible with science, others feel that science and it’s findings must conform to their beliefs to be valid. This is detrimental to the scientific method and science itself.
The loving diety that wants us to use our mind and appreciate his creation can be found DIRECTLY in the opening chapter in the Quran (2:30):And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I will make upon the earth a caretaker/authority.” They said, “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?” Allah said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.”Allah’s last sentence shows his trust in us.
In fact, our religion shuns down upon extremism and paves the way for a middle path in all areas of life. Although there are set standards, there is a large room for flexibility. Regarding people having foresight, it is only educated predictions based on a consistent pattern. The human will not be able to accurately predict if the next piece of data will be inconsistent with the data and by how much. That is pure foolishness.
The problem with religion is that your interpretation of a loving deity who wants you to understand Creation through science is no more valid or correct than those who believe that your religion commands them to adhere to a radical conservative interpretation. To these people any scientific evidence that shows that any part of the religious texts cannot be true, for instance, that people cannot have foreknowledge of events, must be false. This flies in the face of the scientific method.
My brother, you do realize that the collective efforts of the human race has over time aided in the technology and knowledge that we have today? Just find me one SINCERE AND TRUTHFUL contradiction between my religion (Islam) and Science/Knowledge.In fact my religion encourages us to comprehend the sciences so that we may appreciate the supreme creator who made all of this possible and has allowed us to understand it. Please don’t limit yourself, because in the end its about truth (I love science
There have been and forever will be contradictions in science, too. What we used to call “vacuum” between stars now is “dark matter”. That’s because science, like some religious doctrine is full of the “unknown”. Depriving people from religious belief is dictatorship. It will not make them love science any more than they do now. The opposite is also true. We know so little and new discoveries are made almost daily in every part of scientific research. Not to mention that the true PROBLEM is not
the truth is, nobody has been able to make anything useful up to now, because nobody is able to control the properties at this scale. this movie is more about improving the techniques, nothing that can be used at macroscopic scale.
Since ancient times Scientific progression has been halted by religion/superstition even to this very day people choose Mythological nonsense over something that actually provides explanations about the natural world and works for us. By choosing religion over this, people are wasting alot of valuable time and money which could be going towards science and progress. not only that religion has brought about and perpetuated social issues like war, hatred, ignorance and bigotry. Science is Awesome!!!!
how exactly have they managed to prevent it. does it work like these people ask for grants from government but the government is made of religious people who are also technophobes as transhumanis it goes against god/ i dont know how the adult world works if this is the case that is really annoying.
Anger is what’s holding the world back. We need to become aware of our anger in order to control our selves better. I know it is easier said than done, but the benefits that come with being positive are worth the try. Most of us are alive today because of technology; I love the use of technology even if it means molecular/DNA programming, or even uploading our lives to other dimensions. I am doing whatever I can to live in such a world right now, are you doing what you can?
ummmm we have always use new invention for weapon but we also use it for good and save lives/ we are human we will know better how to use them ( the world havent ended by nukes yet soo that means we not as retarded as movies make us seems)
“Nothing is forever” ? – wrong!. There is one thing wich exist forever SINGLE ATOM. If we leave him alone and don’t exchange by any nuclear, chemical or other reaction to make a different one will be living with his electones for another 100 bilion years or to the end of our universe. You guys don’t have any idea what we dealing with. Nanotechnology is like a touching the God or his perfect product. Don’t screw up:)
@orangegold1 sometime tho you will even have weapons that destroy biological matter so war will go and continue cuz the enemy’s will just vannish with everything it has so also the nanobots. which means still no Utopia :p its just the fact that everything is possible in science, you get nanobots (which means close to invincibility) but then weapons get developed to even destroy those. its like hacking and firewalls, firewalls keep getting updated so new hacking methods get developed and so on.
