Mom, Why Did You Circumcise Me?
This excellent documentary staff, both in English and Dutch with English subtitles, follows Dutch journalist / filmmaker Michael Schaap as he learns from his own mother interviews, circumcision, politicians, Jews, Muslims, a man restored British and American activists.
From the author: “I am a born Dutch male who came to Canada in 1981. In most European countries, circumcisions are performed only for religious reasons.
In 1989 I married a Canadian girl very well and we had our first child in February 1992. Although my wife had not seen a circumcised penis until he married me, he realized that circumcision without medical reason was a form of abuse.
There have been some comments from my in-laws, but after talking with them also realized that there was no reason for our son to be circumcised or indeed any child without medical necessity was not.
December 1992 adopted a son and one of the first questions we asked was, “do you want to be circumcised?” Of course our answer was no.
The point of view on circumcision worlds has to change. Most people admit to amputate the foreskin of the clitoris in women is an abuse. There is no difference in the amputation of the glans cover boys.

You live in North American and neverthless you think that in North America there is gender equality?! So just a question: why only the men are forced to be registered to Selective Service System and women are not? For just a reason: a male is considered cannon fodder, a woman is not! Have a nice day.
The abortion debate is a whole nother ballgame… stop comparing apples and oranges. Strictly speaking, circumcision is an issue that is addressed on the assumption that the baby has been born and is “alive” in the outside world.
No longer any pain, but you lost a considerable chunk of heavily-innervated tissue from your penis. That on its own inevitably results in massive life-long loss of sexual pleasure, and that’s before we consider that the sensitive head of the penis, which would normally be covered by the foreskin, is exposed permanently and itself becomes greatly desensitized. If you so much as nick a little girl’s genitals, you go to jail for many years, but men roll over and cheerfully accept being mutilated.
You’re all mental. The right thing to do is PROPERLY educate your son on personal hygiene, to prevent infections etc. Just because a man is not circumcised, doesn’t mean he’s unhygienic and he will have ‘bad’ future problems. EDUCATE YOUR SON!
A woman has the right to do anything she wants with a male body, especially a mother. A son hasn’t any right to ask to his mother: Why you did this to me? At the contrary none has any right on a female body, because the female body is ever inviolable. Infant circumcision is bad, and men who have practiced it should be jailed, but a woman can’t be never judged for her bad choices on male members of her family. However I’m for the mandatory circumcision of adult males.
That circumcision centre is one of the most barbaric things i have ever seen. Looking at all those little boys who are crying and lining up to be mutilated is more than i can tolerate. People are getting rich off this too. Im sure no woman would work in a centre that mutilates baby girls.
How anyone can do this to an innocent completely defenceless baby boy is utterly beyond comprehension. And we are supposed to be living in the 21st century!!. What about a child’s human rights??. Those who defend it using religion need to wake up to reality.
It amazes me when men try to justify what’s been done to them by saying stuff like “it’s cleaner/healthier”. What, you don’t shower? It’s as though, as a coping mechanism, they delude themselves that what was taken from them would have been nothing but a burden, so it’s a good thing it’s gone. It’s like a deaf guy saying “I’m glad I’m deaf so I don’t have to listen to music that sucks”.

I think the public is just generally uninformed about circumcision of males. They want to believe it has a purpose outside of making the doctor more money, that it has a health benefit (and in some cases, a religious benefit), but the truth is that it doesn’t. Also, the foreskin is not a vestigial structure… it DOES serve a PURPOSE on the human male body. (And indirectly to the female body.)
I’m a muslim but i’m against circumcision. The quran is supposed to be our only holy book and the example of abraham means having the sheer faith he had. The Hadith is not credible because it as changed a lot and isn’t reliable and authentic.
@TheChallenger2011 And hair and nails grow back. Foreskin doesn’t. Foreskin has nerves and blood vessels. Hair and nails don’t.Ironically, however, a denuded glans can develop a layer of dead skin cells made of keratin – the same stuff of which hair and nails are made.
Fantastic video. Someday all forms of genital mutilation will be banned as they should be. There is no excuse to EVER alter, touch, mess with, cut, or mutilate a child’s gentalia. The people that do it are criminals; the parents that sign off on it are misguided and will reap what they sow.
A well-made video, and so honest. But eight years after it was made, no action has been taken to prosecute the perpetrators of male genital mutilation. Why not? Are the police and law courts frightened? It is time that the ancient procedure was relegated to the garbage bin of history.
@MsDutchee That mother must be the most cruel being on the planet. She has her infant son circumcised, knowing full well her father is non circumcised. Her reason first it looks better and second for health purposes. Would it not be easier to teach your son to be hygienic, clean properly then let your son1 go through that agony. She should cut her Labia so Her mother can say it looks better
@TheTwill12 Adding penile glans stimulation to the early core of the developing infant’s neural networking along with sight, sound, taste, etc. results in a more complex core. Neural network branching outward from that core would therefore be more complex. That is straightforward scientific reasoning.
@joefriendly Your speculations on the potential benefits of circumcision sound like absolute nonsense. This talk about circumcision integrating self and mind is just crazy talk. People like you are the reason limits should be placed on the practice of this procedure on children.
Here’s my theory for why circumcision is beneficial, beyond the usual arguments for hygiene, which seem a distraction. The purpose of the foreskin seems to be to create a separate state of mind when the penis is erected involving an urgency to intercourse. When not erected the penis that is otherwise protected by a foreskin from sensation and stimulation is not much integrated into the sense of self and mind until adolescence.
It’s as if Evolution, Nature, seem to have made the choice to heighten the urgency of making babies upon sexual maturity at adolescence, when attractive females provoke a lot of erections. Ever watch a male dog in heat, bright red penis extending past foreskin, going at it with such great urgency?
With circumcision there is early stimulation and integration of penile sensations with the infant’s developing sense of self. One major source of stimulation is probably when the mother is changing diapers and wiping excrement from the penis. Arguably that could promote more bonding, even heighten Oedipal dynamics, competition with the father.
