Like the plot of a science fiction B movie, something strange is happening deep in the constant rotation of liquid metallic core generates Earth’s magnetic force invisible field protects our planet from harmful radiation in space. Gradually, the field is getting weaker. Could we be heading for a demagnetized doomsday leaves us defenseless against the lethal effects of solar wind and cosmic rays? “Magnetic Storm” looks into our potentially unsettling magnetic future.

Scientists studying the problem are looking everywhere from Mars, which suffered a magnetic crisis four billion years, and has been devoid of a magnetic field, an appreciable atmosphere, and possibly life ever since, to a laboratory in the University of Maryland, where a team headed by physicist Dan Lathrop has recreated the molten iron dynamo at Earth’s core by using 240 pounds of highly explosive molten sodium. The most visible signs of Earth’s magnetic field are auroras, which are caused by charged particles from space interact with the atmosphere as it flows toward the north and south magnetic poles.

However, the warning signs of a declining field are subtler-though they are evident in every clay dish that was never fired. During high temperature firing, iron minerals in clay record the exact state of Earth’s magnetic field at that precise moment. By examining pots from prehistory to modern times, geologist John Shaw of the University of Liverpool in England, has discovered how dramatically the field has changed. “When we plot the results of ceramics,” he says, “we see a rapid decline that we have reached our days. The exchange rate is higher in the last 300 years, it has been for some time in the past 5,000 years . going from a strong field to a weak field, and do so very quickly. ”

At the current rate, the Earth’s magnetic field could disappear within a few centuries, exposing the planet from relentless blast of charged particles from space with unpredictable consequences for the environment and life. Other options: the field could stop weakening and begin to strengthen, or it could weaken to the point that suddenly turns polarity, that is, compasses begin to point to the South Magnetic Pole.

North America should be shifted to a more temperate area

i was looking at how a clock works look where i ended up

bullshit video! nothing will happen you retards; this is brainwashing!

  4. Neah… to an extent magnetic fields can affect light, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of light affecting magnetic fields. Either way, the energy possessed by a radiowave is so infinitesimally weak relative to our magnetic field in terms of ability to do work that the hypothesis* falls flat on its face. The more energetic IR radiation that earth constantly emits is much more significant than our radiowave output, and it doesn’t affect the magnetosphere at all.

  5. swiftroph says:

Not sure… If it has already happens a lot of times in the past of the Earth, why would the humans have anything to do with it?Overmore, Magnetic field and Radio waves have actually no “direct” connection. But the theory was a good try.

  6. 35906 says:

Here is a theory: The Northern hemisphere is more technologically advanced, and populated than the Southern hemisphere. Perhaps we are throwing the magnetic field off with all of the cellphone towers that we have in North America and Europe, and it the fact that they are not balanced by radio waves in the Southern hemisphere in the less technologically advanced, less densely populated South America, and Africa.

  7. blindlar says:

check out “Dr Sal’s Warning” on youtube (gFSPWC8TKnk). Guy claims he works for NASA and that aliens have told us poles will shift in 2016 and the Van Allen Belt will hit Earth and destroy 70-80% of life. Very interesting to say the least.

  8. mookynuke says:

Life on Earth been around millions of years and have seen many polar shifts. If anything, it will thin out the worlds 7 billion population, thats a good thing. We will never end up like Mars any time soon, because we have a moon that pulls on Earths mass in which generates heat within, similar to Gas Giants and their moons with hot cores. I look forward to the new changes .. lock n load beoootch!

  9. thehaytch says:

Good point but with large open pit iron ore mines that will remove (in Australia) 500+ million tons of ore a year from a relatively small area it could seen that over a 25yr life of a mine that there may be a small effect. When reviewing the 3 gorges dam in china there is research currently going on regarding this new mass of water having an effect on the earth’s rotation, it even has tidal movements.

  10. Maytons says:

Hmmmm, let’s see… We pump trillions of barrels of oil out of the ground. That vast reservoir of oil lubricates the churning mass between our core and mantle. Duh, of course the magnetic properties of the core are changing. When the core moves slower the electromagnetic field becomes weaker. PS- I’m not a scientist, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn!?! =)

  11. Which excites atmospheric particles and causes electrons to jump levels in orbit around the nucleus of an atom. When they loose the energy they release the same energy they absorbed as well as also releasing light similar to the level of excited energy they absorbed. Which causes an undulation of colors as the atmosphere varies in composition.

  12. No the reason the north and south pole are so cold are related to the angle the sun is relative to the tilt and rotation of earth. Most of the heat created on the planet is captured by light from the sun trapped in the atmosphere. At higher latitudes the sun glances light on the surface of earth which is more indirect illumination caused by scattered light through particles. (Such as water vapor) The rings at the north and south actually collect a greater bombardment of solar wind.

  13. cj40673 says:

so is that y the south and north pole is so cold? because they are exposed to more space, the reason i say this is the fact the magnetic feild like that picture where it shows the magnetic field and it has the donut shape arout the north and south. right or am i wrong or it has no effect over the south and north pole.

  14. Jortzul says:

Earths liquid metal core, where the magnetic field is generated, starts at around 2,600 Km deep. The metals we mine are not extracted from the core of the earth since we can’t go that deep. What we mine is in the crust a few Km deep. So no, mining metals doesn’t affect the magnetic field. The deepest we’ve been is a little over 12 Km and that’s just a borehole for oil and gas.

  15. hummm…. i have a thought.. if earth core is a big magnet and the center on earth is iron, do you think the fact that we extract the metals out of the earth might play a role on the magnetic fields around us? in other words not just imbalance on earth magnetic field but our lives as well?? just a thought.

  16. bassguy4s says:

WTF are you talking about?? Solar gamma radiation shortens my lifespan, Mars have been mined.. Have you ever been _INSIDE_ of a school????? Magnetic fields do not protect you against gamma radiation they affect charged particles.. Heavy volcanism on Mars was a temporary phenomenon, lack of gravity is constant in time, so lack of gravity wins. You can calculate it if you’ve finished high school….

  17. @bassguy4s Have you considered that Mars may have been mined of all its extractible resources at some point in the ineffible past, perhaps when Earth was more Venus-like? Your statement about Mars being too small is inaccurate; energetic processes including replenishment by vucanism are significant.Human intelligence has never withnessed such a magnetic pole reversal which seems inevitable,… so bombardment by solar gamma radiation that shortens your lifespan is no big deal?

  18. @WHDTV He’s not the only one yet science and scientists are no longer respected. The answer is in mysticism, the personal relationship to reality. In other words, get ready to live without technology for a while. The elites will be unable to live without their devices to manipulate others.

  19. bassguy4s says:

Mars lost its atmosphere because it’s too light and its gravitational field cannot keep a thick atmosphere. So the atmosphere of Mars would have gone even if the planet have not had lost its magnetic field. I was also wondering if there is any record of widespread mutation, extinction of species, etc, at the time of previous flips of magnetic pole.. If not then what’s the big deal?

  20. lkosch1 says:

There is so much contraversy as to why the governments are building there underground bunkers…it is of course in fear of the solar storns expected in 2012, but i would guess that is only a small part of the story, they are preparing for the pole shift and how they will be safe from the solar radiation while all us poor saps will be dying off from the cancers caused by said radiation
