James Bond: The True Story is a documentary on author Ian Fleming’s suave secret agent, James Bond. This film talks about Fleming’s wartime service in naval intelligence talks about two men upon whom Bond’s character is probably based.

On February 17th 1952, Ian Fleming wrote the spy story to end all spy stories. The central character of this story became the world’s best-loved fictional creations: James Bond.

What is important to note that the popularity in Bond’s improved when US president John F Kennedy announced that he was a fan of the book “From Russia with Love”? However, the true credit for increasing the popularity of Bond goes to the film series started in 1961. As per the estimates half the population of the world has seen a James Bond film, while Fleming’s books have sold over 100 million copies.

The film throws the question if James Bond is purely a fairytale or does it have some basis in reality. The author’s wartime career in naval intelligence allowed him an intimate acquaintance with the secret service and the methods and ploys associated with the secret services. He had embarked on many top-secret missions to the US, France, Spain and North Africa. These events in Fleming’s life shaped every aspect of Bond. Bond’s world, his women and his adventures reflect the life of the author himself.

According to Henry Chancellor, author of a book on Bond, believes Fleming “may have written fiction, but 95% of it was based on fact that had been filtered through the prism of his imagination and then polished up a bit”.
