In Memoriam Alexander Litvinenko
The film is about Aleksander Litvinenko, former member of the Russian secret service who died in his residence in London last November. His death was a result of radioactive poisoning. The search for the possible perpetrators of Aleksander Litvinenko ‘s death resulted in a political difficult situation that reminded us of the dark days of the Cold War.
Three years ago Aleksander Litvinenko had talked about his life to a documentary maker Jos De Putter. The life story of this Russian spy is full of conspiracies, assassination attempts and imputations. In this interview Litvinenko talks about his time with the secret service, his experience in Chechnya, and in particular about the series of bomb attacks on Russian territory. Litvinenko describes those attacks as the work of the secret service.
After Litvinenko’s funeral in December 2006, Backlight spoke to Litvinenko’s widow. Marina Litvinenko is writing a book about her husband. The book is to be published in May 2007 and the film rights have already been sold to Columbia Pictures. In this interview, she speaks about how their first meeting, how they fled to England and Aleksander´s death agony.
