The amazing story of the natural forces that have shaped our history by Professor Iain Stewart. Our planet has incredible power, and yet rarely mentioned in history books.

This series tells the story of how the Earth has influenced human history since the dawn of civilization in the modern industrial age. It reveals for the first time on television as geology, geography and climate have been a much more powerful influence in human history that has been previously recognized.

A combination of that epic, visually stunning camera work-places and the presentation of extraordinary passion combine to form a very original version of human history.

1. Depths of the Earth. In this first episode, Iain explores the relationship between the depths of the earth and the development of human civilization. Visit a special crystal cave in Mexico, falls into a hole in the Iranian desert and crawls through seven thousand years, the tunnels of Israel.

2. Water. Visit spectacular sites of Iceland, the Middle East and India, Iain shows how the control of water has been fundamental to human existence.

3. Wind. Iain paw on one of the fastest racing boats ever built to explore the history of our turbulent relationship with the wind. Visiting landmarks such as the Sahara desert, the coast of West Africa and the South Pacific, Iain discover how people have taken advantage of the wind for thousands of years.

4. Fire. Iain explores man’s relationship with fire. Start by embarking on an extraordinary encounter with the terrible force of nature – a walk through the heart of a raging fire.

5. Human Planet. It explores the force of more recent creation, humans. It’s easy to think of human impact on the planet as a negative, but as Iain view, this is not always the case.
