Oh megamania, you are exactly wrong. It is a conspiratorial plot by the wealthy. Every single right the poor have has been achieved with sweat and blood. Everything. The rich give nothing. If it was left to the rich we would all be slaves. Over the last 30 years the rich have destroyed the unions and guess what, average wages have stagnated while the rich have gotten richer. Not a coincidence. You are delusional.
Sorry, sophomoric Libertarianism and genuflecting to the free market isn’t the answer – it continues to enable and perpetuate the problem. Democracy is used to make elites (in this case wealthy elites) accountable to the public. That requires active government regulation on financial and market machinery that would otherwise seek to victimize the poor by with confusing financial terms & rules. Laws are needed to protect the poor from the wealthy. Elites can buy all the tech they need.
the information age is changing that, more and more poor people are figuring out that there is another path where they too can become rich and wealthy and they are demanding a society structured that way. they are demanding upward mobility free from government restrictions and rich in economic commerce subject only to market forces of supply and demand. its happening slowly but surely and there isnt a thing that the wealthy elites can do about it.
I see that you yourself would enjoy living in a place such as New Guinea where access to a computer is extremely limited. Oh, and I suppose giving up hot water, lighting, and television wouldn’t bother you either.
This is a fantastic documentary. I saw it a few years back. Still, it doesn’t explain very much the current reality. You have countries like Israel and Japan, with no or few natural resources, employing hard work and ingenuity to become economic powerhouses alll out of proportion to their population, while countries like Russia, Egypt and Pakistan are gross underperformers.
Geography is a Science.

7:25 that awkward moment when Diamond wants to hold the stone age rock, but never gets to.

It’s really weird that he left science out of his explanation for the advancement of Europeans.

I wish you could see that its the government regulations that keep the poor poor and not a conspiratorial plot by the wealthy.
