In the War of energy in two parts documentary VPRO Backlight investigates the major developments with regard to energy sources. With The New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman. The film describes the geopolitical consequences of dependence on fossil fuels. In the struggle for the last sources of fossil fuels, countries all over the world are forced to take new political and moral decisions and have to enter uncomfortable alliances: rogue regimes must be tolerated and befriended.
With a special focus on the gas dispute between Russia and Georgia and the position of Saudi Arabia. With ao Thomas Friedman, author of international bestseller The World is Flat. Friedman casts its light on the inverse relationship between oil prices and the establishment of free democracies.
The film happens to take a look at international markets for alternative energy. If oil and gas are scarce and expensive in the future, where countries turn to keep its economy going and their population warm and happy?
Could solar energy or biofuels to be the main energy sources of the post-fossil fuel? Will governments, multinationals or small producers is the engine of the green race?

I like the documentary, but I don’t like them being so biased to countries like Russia and Venezuela. They should just tell us the facts.
@paulsviplist I think reducing oil demand is a good idea, but unfortunately a straight boycott is not even possible, let alone desired for most the US’s population. People who live in a city that does not have the farmland to support its population cannot afford to boycott oil because it would mean starvation.
Is this mostly propaganda against south America, Iran etc — while at the same time suggesting the west while its greedy and needs to be careful has the best government in the world — also funny to see Saudi painted in such a wonderful light did he really say we should stay in a watch TV ha – is it propaganda for ww3
FIRST USA is not a democracy dumb f****. RUSSIA is angel compared to the USA the Satan.
occupy wall street
@xxxrrrxxxrrr agree man i’m from romania we fear and hate the russians at the same time nowone will forget them for what they did to our part of the country moldova .
@Matier2064 there will always be oil we didn’t get out of stone age because we ran out of stones
) nowone is going to get all the oil out of the grund actualy the last 30% resources can’t even be extracted with today technology ,oil will get more expensive and then the economic sistem crashes so nowone will use oil anymore but not because it isn’t there because the economy is gone.
What leftist commie bull s***?
58:59 Burning the unusable part produces CO2? and burning the usable part doesn’t? Because you’ll get more CO2 emissions depending on whether the part that you burnt was usable (burnt in engine) or unusable (the waste). The plant soaked up all of that CO2 in the beginning, net effect is zero, even if you burn the whole thing.
$50 to $70? Try $100 to $150 to $200. Then there will be no oil at any price. The price may have set backs along the way but the long term view remains very bullish.

@freethinker17 He might appear ostensibly pompous, but he made very good points.
Be ready Asian women online #lushfmlk.info#
How on earth is Friedman a three-time Pulitzer winner? One cannot simply say free markets for gas will equal democracy, rights and freedom. Or that protectionist policies on a nation’s key resource equals tyranny. Some good old neoliberal rhetoric right there. Its like these oil-rich countries do not have a past history, a culture, a religion or ideology which would in any way lead to an authoritarian regime. Take this a55holes Pulitzers back…
where is the dutch version? can’t find it anywhere
