  1. Benny HInn isn’t even christian, he’s 100 criminal con-man pretending to be christian and preying on some of the dumbest and most gullible christians in the world, american “born-again-christians”. It has made him very rich without ever healing anyone, and he knows it:(

I don’t particularly believe in God. I do however, respect peoples opinions that there is a god, and i think that being religious and believing in God are different things. It may be good for people to feel a higher connection between others around you, but I feel the same way without god. This show was really nice to show how people of various faith backgrounds can come together to fight something incredibly manipulative.

  3. waniati says:

As a Christian , a Penticostal and a man who loves his Lord , the dirty laundry that is this area of ministry in most cases must be exposed for the greater good of the name of Jesus who I serve may be safeguarded ..good onya mate .

  4. George4943 says:

@ 4:58 “I am going to teach you how to hypnotize.” And hypnotism works. Strangely, it can result in healing. Real healing, as in the placebo effect. When the body is being told by the mind that it is a certain way it does respond. The effect of pain-relief upon taking a Tylenol or Alleve occurs before that drug has made its way to pain receptors. Curing pain is remarkably easy with hypnotism. (I have done so.) Curing the underlying conditions? Not so much.

This is such an excellent video for so many reasons. I love the fact that the point of this video is not to hurt anyone involved in Christian faith, but instead to point towards some of the deceit and cruelty that these believers are being subjected to. I appreciate that Derren makes it very clear in this video that this is a certain kind of Christianity–this is not what practicing looks like for many of those in the faith. I applaud him for his honest, frank, but benevolent approach.

  6. MyGermanicus says:

to Nathan,Never doubt that what you have done is in the service of truth.I doubt I would have your courage, but you do nothing else in yourlife, you’ve done this. And it is more than the most devout believercould hope to contribute to humankind. My hats off to ya lad.

  7. Peace7Maker says:

I like how my Christians friends say that hypnosis is evil as supposedly it don’t work on christian (duh, this video prove otherwise), the practitioner are often weirdos (that is mostly the case, though Derren is very normal and seem like a nice guy) and that it leave you open to demonic influence… They shut me up every time i aboard the subject, if they knew what they experienced in church is actually that…

  8. I never said it has to be disproven. My whole point was that it can’t be because the claims are not falsifiable. Supernatural claims (or at least the common ones) are crafted in a way to be circular and untestable. The best that can be done to try to persuade someone who believes it is to demonstrate that there is no necessity for magic – that all of the experience could happen without it. The point is to refute the argument that god is necessary.

  9. There is a fundamental difference there. Derren Brown does not claim to have supernatural abilities. If he did claim he had god powers to do what he does and you were able to demonstrate how it could be done without those powers it would open the door to the possibility of him being fake. Unfortunately, the supernatural is not something that can be disproven because there are rarely falsifiable claims made about it. It can remain unproven though(Randi challenge) and that’s close enough for me.

  10. Agreed, and he’s not even saying ALL miracles are fake, just exposing the ones that are! If any Christian thinks it’s wrong to question these so called miracles, they should take another good read of The Bible. I personally believe they do happen.

  11. He says pretty plainly that his purpose is not to attack people’s faith. The point is to expose people who lie and do harm for profit. I don’t recall Derren taking a stance on the validity of Jesus at any point in the program (although I may have just forgotten about it). And proving that there are natural explanations for things commonly thought of as being supernatural may not disprove the supernatural, but it does mean that those supernatural explanations deserve some scrutiny.

  12. lkjhgfddfd says:

@positivecrusader You know I think that the reason that they carefully worded the speech at the end not to harm the audiences faith was more out of necessity than “humanity” as you call it. If the audience felt that he was attacking their religion they would immediately put a block on whatever else he said because of their close mindedness

  13. PlanckEpoch says:

Damn, Derren should’ve been the guy to do this. Especially the moment when I saw Nathan throwing a baby fit in front of everyone. I kept thinking to myself Derren would’ve handled this so much better. Too bad he is getting too recognizable in America. There is NO ONE better to play this part. It was made for him. Such a pity.

  14. RuinSonic says:

@positivecrusader This is true. You don’t want to exploit people’s skepticism and their trust by exposing faith healing. I have a little difficulty with the level of deception needed for this show, but I really appreciated a serious attempt to expose something that is very evil and not to try to make it an atheist mockery circus and lose any semblance of credibility.

  15. Fantastic! Not only was this a true educational public service, but it also showed some genuine humanity, such as:– The mixed feelings about misleading people, and how they got through it by reminding themselves of all the people so cruelly taken advantage of.– Giving up the PR company out of fear of hurting them.– Being careful not to harm the audience’s faith at the end. Because at the end of the day, yes it’s about truth – but just as importantly it’s about goodwill to others. Bravo!

  16. Bacbi says:

@LankanTVPresenter I’m not saying derren brown disproves God. I would like proof of jesus christ and the miracles that many “real” faith healers have preformed. If their real why don’t they just prove it? Take a person who is paralized and genuenly believes in god, jesus, thor, zeus or whatever fairytale u choose to believe in and heal him so that he can walk again. When that happens I might change my mind.

  17. @Bacbi All Derren brown is proving is that it is possible to EMULATE the miracles of Christ. None of this actually DISPROVES God. For example, I emulate Derren brown’s mind control tricks on another person. Does that mean derren brown is a fake just because he isnt the only person on earth who can perform those tricks? No. Same thing here.

  18. OK, so maybe SOME pastors are fake, they play on people’s gullibility. BUT here stuill ARE genuine pastors who DO perform miracles by the power of Jesus. People who have given UP LUCRATIVE CAREERS to follow Jesus dressed ni rags. Oh why would they Leave ASO MUCH MONEY FOR life of opverty? Oh wait- CZ THEY WANT TO MAKE! Make sense? Jesus Is real. And the portion of pastors who DONT use trickery, but the power of Jesus Christ the Son of who died to save you from hell, know that.

  19. Jesus Christ is real, and so are his miracles. Im not a hard core christian; I yused to be one, but then I walked away from the faith, BUT I still know Jesus Christ is Real, and his miracles are real, his Holy Spirit is the person by who’s power the miracles like raiseing from the dead ad so on come true. I know Derren seems like he ‘debunked christianity’, but the logic here is, ‘HYPNOSIS CAN EMULATE Jesus to a certain degree, but that does NOT prove that Jesus is fake”.Its simple logic!

  20. @MrPACOBURDITTO2 amazing isnt it? i lovedddddddd the interview with Richard Dawkins!! i was going to suggest that to you! lol :D im doing psychology. I didnt know mentalism was a course option! im doing psychology! although i have to admist i don’t really understand the difference…people seem to use the words interchangeably…but i am thinking of taking a hypnotism course soon :D can’t waitttttttttt!!!

  21. Elisha says:

Theres loads of references to the rnceet jewel heist and the Hope Diamond. Some ppl have also pointed out all the ppl that are reading or carrying newspapers in the ad as being significant too?! is derren actually controlling the news of these past few months? i mean its highly coincidental all these news bout the jewellery heist huh? im becoming increasingly paranoid and worried!
