Can GM Food Save The World?

The world which is witnessing spiraling food prices has again shifted its focus to the problem of food security. With the world population likely to reach 9 billion in a few decades, the responsibility to feed every mouth is even a greater one.
The film discusses if GM is an answer to the problem of food security and the evidence on the success or failure of GM to date. On the one hand GM is definitely seen as a boon that will enable to increase production of food grains and on the other hand as the movie suggest lurks a threat to the environment.
The BBC documentary ends with the question if the food being genetically modified can save the world from famines or would it just turn out to be a severe environmental catastrophe as suggested by Prince Charles.
