Andy, ask the survivors from Auschwitz or those from the gulag (few as they are still left) if they managed to view life the same way as before? imagine just that the whole of your family is wiped out and only you survive: how would you feel? Auschwitz survivors at least had the comfort of being able to tell their tales and not be branded as a lie (in spite of the tiny minority denying holocaust). would you have the guts to ask your questions to one of those old people from the video? i bet you wouldn’t… my own personal experience: i have met some 20 years ago a soldier captured by the Russians and sent for 25 years to Kolima, to work in the copper mines. While I cannot comment on the quality of the documentary from a historical point of view, since i am not a historian myself, nor I believe the documentary to be an exhaustive evidence of the subject in case, I am truly annoyed with the comments of some of the previous viewers. I am not taking sides, trust me, I am not by far of Mr. Jinga’s opinion and I am not condemning the whole Turkish people for what happened then, since not all of them took part in those tragic events. I feel sympathetic towards the Armenians in the same way I would feel sympathetic toward a people that lost a million or more of its members through no fault of their own (by the way, the figures I got from history books, not from this documentary alone). However, I am outraged that citizens of a modern Turkey that strive to be accepted by the European Union and that ask not to be misjudged are still believing a 100 year old propaganda that blamed the misfortune of the Ottoman Empire on the Armenians alone. The Ottoman Empire died because it was its time to die. It was a corrupt decadent empire where human rights were overlooked, where many people, including Turks, had to suffer. It is true some of the Armenian exponents sought the help of the Foreign Powers in order to obtain independence. However they did not start a war against Turks and the genocide (yes, the term applies even before wwII – it applies always in the case of massacres of this genre) that followed was not justified. Just think that out of the one million dead Armenian, more than half were women and children that had absolutely no involvement in the political situation of the time. It does not harm you as modern Turks to admit your own history, it does not paint you as monsters. The sons are not guilty for the faults of their parents, whatever the Bible might say. I have roots in a people that exerted many more genocides than that of the Armenians (half of the Chinese people, for example, almost the whole population of the Persian Empire, the razing of Baghdad, etc). I am not denying them, nor do I try to excuse them. They happened for a reason, in some cases lust for power, in other cases irrational fears, I admit that, but not because I find those reasons do I deny their very occurrence. Learn to accept your own history and you’ll get the advantage of recognising the danger of irrational thinking when it comes to human lives. You wouldnt want in the future that some irrational fears or motives of a stronger people than your own to contribute to the wiping of your people. Genocide is a term created after second world war which means Halocoust. So this term can not be applied the events before WWII.
I personally admit there was a massacre and tragedy, however it is definitely not a genocide against a nation. Armenians living in east of Turkey where is under danger of Russian invasion were deported. Armenians in İstanbul or western part of Turkey have not been affected by the deportation law.

Andy, ask the survivors from Auschwitz or those from the gulag (few as they are still left) if they managed to view life the same way as before? imagine just that the whole of your family is wiped out and only you survive: how would you feel? Auschwitz survivors at least had the comfort of being able to tell their tales and not be branded as a lie (in spite of the tiny minority denying holocaust). would you have the guts to ask your questions to one of those old people from the video? i bet you wouldn’t… my own personal experience: i have met some 20 years ago a soldier captured by the Russians and sent for 25 years to Kolima, to work in the copper mines. It was amazing that he managed to survive for all that time. But since he had returned, he had spent all his time closed in his own world, not talking to anyone any more, not responding, barely eating, unable to work. he was for all effects a living dead. and his was a personal tragedy, no one in his family had been harmed…
While I cannot comment on the quality of the documentary from a historical point of view, since i am not a historian myself, nor I believe the documentary to be an exhaustive evidence of the subject in case, I am truly annoyed with the comments of some of the previous viewers. I am not taking sides, trust me, I am not by far of Mr. Jinga’s opinion and I am not condemning the whole Turkish people for what happened then, since not all of them took part in those tragic events. I feel sympathetic towards the Armenians in the same way I would feel sympathetic toward a people that lost a million or more of its members through no fault of their own (by the way, the figures I got from history books, not from this documentary alone). However, I am outraged that citizens of a modern Turkey that strive to be accepted by the European Union and that ask not to be misjudged are still believing a 100 year old propaganda that blamed the misfortune of the Ottoman Empire on the Armenians alone. The Ottoman Empire died because it was its time to die. It was a corrupt decadent empire where human rights were overlooked, where many people, including Turks, had to suffer. It is true some of the Armenian exponents sought the help of the Foreign Powers in order to obtain independence. However they did not start a war against Turks and the genocide (yes, the term applies even before wwII – it applies always in the case of massacres of this genre) that followed was not justified. Just think that out of the one million dead Armenian, more than half were women and children that had absolutely no involvement in the political situation of the time. It does not harm you as modern Turks to admit your own history, it does not paint you as monsters. The sons are not guilty for the faults of their parents, whatever the Bible might say. I have roots in a people that exerted many more genocides than that of the Armenians (half of the Chinese people, for example, almost the whole population of the Persian Empire, the razing of Baghdad, etc). I am not denying them, nor do I try to excuse them. They happened for a reason, in some cases lust for power, in other cases irrational fears, I admit that, but not because I find those reasons do I deny their very occurrence. Learn to accept your own history and you’ll get the advantage of recognising the danger of irrational thinking when it comes to human lives. You wouldnt want in the future that some irrational fears or motives of a stronger people than your own to contribute to the wiping of your people. Just dont forget the lust of the Russians for your straights. Imagine what would happen if for some reason the whole Russian people would be manipulated into killing the Turks? I see some of you still dream of a Turkish Empire and wish that the EU collapses? what moral right do you think you have over parts of Europe? dont you have enough land in Turkey?
I was talking in general, about Turkey as a political power. I don’t talk about every citizen, but I know well what Turkey did during the history. I know because I studied history, and because I live in a country which was oppressed by the Otoman Empire for over 350 years. I know how many children were taken from they mothers and raised to be soldiers and later to kill their own biological parents, how many people died to defend their countries against the otoman invaders, how much gold they stoled and I can give hundreds of examples. I don’t say they didn’t do anything good, but they provoked too much suffering. The past is gone, but we shouldn’t forget. That’s all. Don’t forget what you did in the past, before you think you are so great.

first of all if you look at the history books of all archives armenian people that lived at the ottoman time had a title as the loyal ones. But when the end time came for ottoman empire first local gangs and rebeletion acts which are responsible of killing not only turks but also the loyal citizen of ottoman empire who are from different kind countries and etnich identities are made by armenians.
The reason of these kinds of documents is money! What armenian goverment is trying to do is obvious. They want to claim money. A money which is similar that payed by germany because of their genocide at ww2. The formal answer to this accusation was already made by turkish goverment. Turkish goverment simply said ” Lets establised an organization to look into this case. We open our archives and we offer armanian people to open theirs to public. Not a limited acess but a full one. ” Of course the answer to this suggestion was no immediately. Becouse armenian goverment already know that they are wrong. They are also puppets of greek as they were at the saviour war of turks. Which turkey has beated not only greeks but also the countries that has plan in their lands.
Turkey is still answering politely by restorating armenian churches and doing some other stuff to help them live in turkey. But these are not published by armenian media. Europian nation which claim to support armenia in their case is lying. All the legal research and reports that they published explains that if turkey wont come a member of the europian nations. This society of europians can only last for another ten years. Every resonable scientest who had knowledge about world and geography knows it! And if turkey attend to another union or actually establish one from the begining people of europe will loose all of their economic previliges as they have started now.
So stop being racist stop being ignorant and stop being a puppet of a bigger plan that will bring your end. Turkish land has a very big and long history. Which includes much more than ottoman empires history. So as every strategic view and report shows we turks will wait patiently for another ten years for your organization to collapse than we will rise again and dont worry we will notharm you we will forgive you!

None of these exist in turkey. Our women walk in the streets more confidently than yours if you compare the rape ratings of the two countries. You can not understand a historical event without knowing situation at that time. And this documentary says nothing about situation of Turkey at that time.
Genocide is a term created after second world war which means Halocoust. So this term can not be applied the events before WWII.
I personally admit there was a massacre and tragedy, however it is definitely not a genocide against a nation. Armenians living in east of Turkey where is under danger of Russian invasion were deported. Armenians in İstanbul or western part of Turkey have not been affected by the deportation law.

This video is so misleading and the Turkish point of wiev is disregarded. Turkish land was occupied by many nations at the time, and the armenians cooperated with the invaders. So the government had to take the necessary precautions, and the banishment was one of the ways. One another point, there is a saying in Turkish culture “armenian cruelty” There are lots of mothers telling massacres of armenians, not just one. I mean there were conditions of war at the time, however, this doesn’t mean killing the defenseless people but this doesn’t mean coordinating with the invaders and betraying your own government’s army which had been your army for hundreds of years.
