Track popular and critically acclaimed 2007 documentary The most hated family in America, Louis Theroux returns to Topeka, Kansas, for a second visit to the Westboro Baptist Church.
A group of fire and brimstone Christian, consisting of around 80 members of the Phelps family, the WBC have become notorious in the U.S. – and worldwide – for its picketing funerals of soldiers killed in action, where perpetrated against gay posters.
Phelps believes that the soldiers were killed as part of God’s punishment to America for its tolerance of homosexuality. However, four years after Louis’s last visit, there are signs of disorder in the Phelps clan. A series of defections by members of the family has rocked the church. Have been at the center of a Supreme Court case in question, and possibly due to the resulting attention, their beliefs have become increasingly bizarre.
Most hated family in the United States in the crisis, Louis was awarded once again, a look behind the scenes at issue in the U.S. Christian group as it prepares for what he sees as the final showdown with America doomed. Luis Church explores new and strange beliefs that Obama is the beast spoken of in the book of Revelation, and his conviction that we are now in the run up to the second coming of Christ.
However, church members have seen their first film and as a result, that insult Louis, who they see as one of the most evil men in history – claiming he is on par with the power of Pontius Pilate for his alleged mockery of the true Christianity. However, church members also see the dissemination of his message as a necessary part of the Church out of reach, even if it means spending time with a hopeless believer.
Louis also keeps track of two deceased members – young women who had been interviewed in the first movie when they were still inside the church. The probes of the parents of the apostates, who have “cut off” their daughters renegade, and now affects a strange indifference and cooling of the separation.
